How do i know if my horse is Futurity eligible?

Horses born in 2021 and 2022 are eligible to compete in the futurity class for the 2026 OBFA season. Futurity is your horse’s first year of competition. Your horse cannot have competed in a barrel racing class (jackpot, club show, anything) prior to November 15, 2025, if you plan to futurity in 2026 on your 4 or 5 year old horse.

how do i know if my horse is derby eligible?

Horses born between 2019 and 2021 are eligible to compete in the derby class. If your horse ran its futurity year as a 4-year-old, they could enter the OBFA derby in their 5, 6, and 7-year-old years. Horses do not have to be enrolled in the OBFA for their futurity year to compete in the derby.

What is the payment schedule?

• $200 due February 23rd 2026

• $100 due March 31st 2026

Payments may be made in advance. Late fees are $50 per missed payment. Cut off date is April 15, 2026.

What if i sell my horse?

Points are gathered by the horse. If you sell your horse during the season, the new owner will be able to continue the season with the OBFA.

What if my horse is not registered with the AQHA?

Any registration paperwork will do. If you plan on running a grade horse, please have a note from your veterinarian confirming your horse’s age.

Complete the form from the website and return, with a copy of your horses registration papers, to: ontariobarrelfuturity@gmail.com.

There will be an in person check in at Spring Thaw.
